"Under The Helmet" showcases the pro-social on and off the field activities of the NFL's leading players and coaches. Working with the National Association for Sports and Physical Education, the program (1) educates teens about dedication, hard work, teamwork, goal setting and community service, (2) provides examples of responsible social and personal behavior, (3) demonstrates how to deal constructively with the differences among people, and (4) teaches the benefits of physical activity and fitness.

a. KMSB regularly aired PSAs specifically designed for children 16-years-old and under during the report period. Subjects this quarter included: Girl Scouts, Tucson Children's Museum, LULAC Youth Leadership, Kid Crime Prevention(Tucson Police Dept.), Dangers of drug use (Drug Free Arizona), Tucson Girls Chorus, The value of abstinence before marriage (Arizona Dept. of Health Services), Concern for the environment((Desert Survivors)(Arizona State Parks), Concern for animals (Tucson Wildlife Center), The value of 4-H club membership (UA Coop. Extension Services), UA Center for Diasbailities. High School Drop Outs: An Economic Issue KMSB-TV, Fox-11, March 18, 9-10 PM (Produced by KMSB-TV) A look at the high school dropout problem in Tucson-area schools and the impact it has on the economy. Host Bob Lee and a panel of school officials discussed who the dropouts are and at what causes them to quit school. The financial and social ramifications of dropping out and prevention efforts were also presented. The focus of the discussion wason the barriers dropouts face in obtaining a good job and earning a livable wage. Several students will also participate, telling why they chose to stay in school. A recent truancy round-up in Tucson netted the highest number of kids not in school in seven years. A statewide report in June, 2002, indicated one in three students in Arizona do not complete high school. Non-program effort: KMSB-TV donated $600.00 in production time to Desert Survivors for a spot promoting the organization’s annual “Too Tough To Die” motorcycle run to raise funds for children’s programs. KMSB-TV donated $450.00 in support of the LULAC Educator's Awards Dinner and Youth Leadership Conference.
