MIRACLE MAKERS TELETHON - KOMO 4 broadcast the 19th annual Children's Hospital Telethon May 31st. When the four-hour telethon signed off, $6.4 million was raised. Many of KOMO 4's anchors and reporters headed the broadcast. CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL "PURCHASE A MIRACLE" - KOMO 4 produced and aired (for 6 weeks) a new Purchase-A-Miracle spot featuring Seattle Mariner Bret Boone and patient Rachel Cradduck playing baseball in a grocery store to highlight grocery products participating in the 2003 P.A.M. campaign. Each time shoppers purchased one of the these products, the manufacturer donated a portion of the proceeds to Children's Hospital. MOM AND ME AT THE ZOO - KOMO 4 joined forces with the Bon Marche to co-sponsor Mom & Me at the Zoo, the Saturday before Mother's Day, May 10. Approximately 10,000 guests visited Woodland Park Zoo, the site for the Bon Marche's annual event. The Mom & Me at the Zoo event offered musical entertainment, games, giveaways and good weather. The animals were kind and friendly and all had a grand time. Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle and Pt. Defiance Zoo/Aquarium in Tacoma were the beneficiaries. CHAMPIONS ON ICE - CRISIS CLINIC - Through the auspices of KOMO 4, this year's Chevy Champions on Ice Tour contributed $2,500 and complimentary show tickets to the Crisis Clinic, a local agency dedicated to helping teenagers and adults who find themselves in a crisis and at wit's end with nowhere to turn. FATHER'S DAY AT MUSEUM OF FLIGHT - KOMO 4 was a co-sponsor for the Father's Day at the Museum of Flight. Kids were encouraged to take dad to the Museum of Flight on Father's Day weekend. Dad could pretend he's the President of the United States and board the original Air Force One, sitting on the tarmac in front of the museum. There are a number of ways to bond with dad there. LATCHKEY KIDS SPOT - Since the calendar was approaching the time when kids would be left alone by working parents, the station's For Kids' Sake campaign produced and broadcast a "Latchkey Kids Tips" spot. The PSA outlined some of the do's and don'ts for young children at home waiting for mom or dad to return from work. The vignette aired until early summer.
