Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming
Show seeks to engage and entertain 8-12-year-olds while portraying and promoting positive character development and interpersonal skills relevant to issues that confront today’s children. Five "troll girlz" are on the cusp of adolescence…their “gems” (gemstones that reside in the navel of every Troll female) have begun to glow! In the Troll world a glowing gem is a sign of an emerging ability to work magic. It is also a sign change. Each of our five Trollz are about to discover that their glowing gem is the harbinger not only of new powers, but also of new expectations, new challenges, new responsibilities. Their power is not just a toy! As they struggle to master their new-found powers, they also struggle to figure out what it means to be a good citizen, a good friend, a good person. They face the kinds of issues that every child faces – how to accept responsibility even at personal cost, how to deal with jealousy, what being a good friend really means, respect for differences and recognition of the power of diversity, when to ask for help and when to be self-reliant, the value of cooperation, the dangers of procrastination, the importance of being oneself.

Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming
Each week Archie and the gang negotiate their way through yet another "weird mystery." They encounter many of the same problems and issues confronting today's pre-teens: how to get along with others; how to build and maintain self-confidence; and, what kinds of values and behaviors lead to both self-respect and respect from others. Because Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and their classmates are engaging characters with whom young viewers easily identify, they serve as excellent role models. As they deal with such pro-social issues as honesty, perseverance, dependability, diversity, self-reliance, and self-respect, their struggles and what they finally learn provide young viewers with the kinds of "life lessons" that, study after study, indicates parents and teachers value.

Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming
Series deals with science and the task of making science accessible and understandable. It offers scientific content, scientific theories, the vocabulary and facts of science and the processes of scientific thinking. Experts in both science education and the development needs of this age group have recommended that the children need to focus their learning on the physical sciences and the life sciences along with learning the processes of investigation and experimentation, i.e., (re: PHYSICAL SCIENCE) Beakman discusses and demonstrates the concepts of density and displacement with an experiment explaining why a steel boat floats while a steel bar sinks; and (re: LIFE SCIENCE) Beakman explains the concept of migration and illustrates it with video of migrating birds, butterflies, caribous, salmon and grey whales. As children move from dependence to independence and separate from adult authority, they seek out non-traditional sources of authority. Paul Zaloom’s portrayal of Beakman is exactly that—a non-traditional source of authority who answers science questions in non-traditional, quirky, humorous, lively and colorful ways.
