Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming
Series deals with science and the task of making science accessible and understandable. It offers scientific content, scientific theories, the vocabulary and facts of science and the processess of scientific thinking. Experts in both science education and the development needs of this age group have recommended that the children need to focus their learning on the physical sciences and the life sciences along with learning the processes of investigation and experimentation, i.e., (re: PHYSICAL SCIENCE) Beakman discusses and demonstrates the concepts of density and displacement with an experiment explaining why a steel boat floats while a steel bar sinks; and (re: LIFE SCIENCE) Beakman explains the concept of migration and illustrates it with video of migrating birds, butterflies, caribous, salmon and grey whales. As children move from dependence to independence and separate from adult authority, they seek out non-traditional sources of authority. Paul Zaloom's portrayal of Beakman is exactly that - a non-traditional source of authority who answers science questions in non-traditional, quirky, humorous, lively and colorful ways.

Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming
Aqua Kids provides core programming in the area of biology and specifically the ecosystem related to the ocean, its tributaries and estuaries. Children can learn about the resources of the oceans and how protection of oceans is necessary to present and future generations. Not only does the show teach biological topics, but it aims to enrich children's lives by making them aware of future generations, the role they play now, and for generations into the future, with the biggest ecosystem on earth - the oceans. Each episode provides information related to a specific topic and gives an educational approach to understand the topic related to the entire ecosystem of the earth. Aqua Kids uses the technique of near peer mentors i.e., children to teach other children. Each episode employs Aqua Kids who ask questions and experience first hand the experience of the topic. For example, children might feed Manatees to experience the graceful, gentle nature of the animal and learn about their biology or dig through piles of silt dredged from the ocean depths to look for shark teeth to understand how shark continually grow teeth and lose old rows of teeth.
