Set in medieval times, "Jane & the Dragon" is an animated show about a middle class, thirteen-year-old girl named Jane who is raised in the Royal Court as a Knight-in-Training. With a giant green dragon as her best friend, Jane experiences challenges that test her skills and demonstrate her strength in character, as a Knight of the King's Guard. Entrenched in each episode are social-emotional messages that hinge on the universal themes of courage, kindness, honesty and friendship.

The Zula Patrol is the only 3D/CG animated children's show that focuses on the important curriculum of science and astronomy, The Zula Patrol is an entertaining and educational TV series that combines zesty family entertainment with proven educational elements. With a secondary goal of encouraging core values of non-violence and tolerance, the show encourages whole-family participation and interest in learning about science and astronomy, in a fun, comic style. The Zula Patrol is designed to appeal to children (Pre-Kindergarten-2nd Grade), the target audience for the comical denizens of Zula who, during the course of a typical show, will learn interesting and critical facts about the universe, galaxy, and solar system in which they live.

"Veggie Tales" is a children's series featuring animated vegetables who teach life lessons through delightfully entertaining stories. Hosted by Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber, each episode begins by establishing the problem, uses short stories to parallel the situation with the problem and solution, and ends by reiterating the proposed solution and the life lesson learned through the experience. Without being preachy, the show communicates core values of honesty, kindness, forgiveness and appreciation for all, through entertaining characters and storylines.

"My Friend Rabbit" models constructive problem solving for young children, ages 4-8. In each episode, the story characters find themselves facing a different dilemma that is drawn from a typical childhood experience. Rabbit and Mouse usually lead us through creative problem solving, which involves tenacity and working in teams. The group may figure out how to make the most of a bad situation, invent toys from everyday objects, solve some of nature's riddles, respect their differences, or take care of others who need a little extra help. the characters specialize in converting a challenge into a social activity filled with optimism, creativity and humor. By showing viewers how the characters work together to come up with possible solutions, and persist with new ideas when one solution fails, the series helps children learn to think out of the box and figure out innovative solutions to problems in their everyday lives.

Teen Kid News is the first kid-to-kid newscast, created for and delivered by children. This program meets the need of children whose sophistication and curiosity about their world is motivated by the information explosion. They have the interest; they have opinions; but they also have a healthy skepticism about adult explanations, which tend to be either condescending, or overly comples. A cast of engaging and intelligent African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Caucasian male and female child actors interact with each other and connect to the viewers.

Monday's Family Focus Health report reviewed a study that shows about 1 in 15 hospitalized children become victims of medical mix-ups. The study also revealed that accidental overdoses and bad drug reactions happen at an alarming rate. This news report discussed ways to prevent this from happening to your child.

It was pointed out that Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana and the Office of Community Services planted pinwheels in front of the State building in Shreveport. The pinwheels represented the number of calls of abuse each area receives.

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker announced a joint venture called Celebrate Education. It is a 7 day celebration of the arts, which will be held at Shreveport Convention Center. Students at area schools will showcase their talent.

Over three years there has been a steady decline in student enrollment in Webster Parish. According to this report, the decline in student enrollment means less funding for the school district. The Webster Parish School Board president formed a study committee that will decide if 3 schools need to make changes. The committee will determine whether the schools they're studying should be realigned, closed or stay the way they are.

Students at Arkansas High will be able to use a credit union while at school this coming fall. Shelli Briery explained that the branch is operated by students and the accounts follow the high schoolers after graduation. Students and school officials say it is a hit. Student credit unions are in service at three schools. Around 900 students have accounts at local schools.

Reporter Shelli Briery announced that College Hill Elementary School is being recognized as an international baccalaureate world school. The honor means the school is preparing students physically, emotionally, intellectually, and ethically for the outside world.

Paula VanDrisse reported on efforts to raise money for the Cara House, the new facility that will house abused children . The Cara House project is a joint venture with LSU Medical Center and Christus Schumpert designed to diagnose and treat child abuse. Barnes & Noble donated portions of the proceeds from Saturday's book and cafe sales to the new facility.

Authorities and school officials in Stamps, Arkansas have had to intervene after several fights occurred on campus. Five teens were arrested and six were suspended from school. The fights are being blamed on an ongoing rivalry between teens from Stamps and Lewisville. Parents are scared that the violence will escalate if nothing is done. According to this report, authorities are tightening security at the school and assuring parents their children will be safe.

The Department of Defense is teaming up with Sesame Street to help military families deal with the different aspects of war. The Sesame Street website now has a link to a section called deployment, homecomings, and changes. This report indicated that the site is aimed at helping young children build a sense of stability during times of separation and change.

The Louisiana Department of Education released student's scores from March testing. According to this report, scores show 4th and 8th grade students state wide improved in math and English. The state wide average of passing 4th graders is 75 percent. For 8th graders the average is 66 percent. According to state officials, high school students showed small but positive gains on the math and English portions, but science and social studies scores were either flat or showed losses.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office will host Sheriff's Camp for about 100 Caddo Boys ages 10-13. The will sleep in tents, participate in outdoor activities, learn camp songs, and sharpen their leadership skills. According to this report, Sheriff's Camp is held annually in cooperation with the Boy Scouts of America-Northwest Louisiana Council.

Caddo Parish will be getting a new Juvenile Detention Center. This report explained that three regional facilities will be constructed across Louisiana as the Jetson Center for Youth in Baker, Louisiana will close its doors to juveniles. The Caddo facility will be equipped to house 48 juveniles at one time. Inmates will be offered therapeutic treatment at the facility.

The increasing number of obese children and youth throughout the United States has led policy makers to rank it as a public health threat. Since the l970's the percentage of obesity has more than doubled for preschool children aged 2-5 years and adolescents aged 12-19 years. This report emphasized that approximately 9 million children over six years of age are obese. (Also aired at 10p) Solid Rock of Shreveport is taking an initiative to change that. Local kids fighting childhood obesity and eating disorders were invited to spend one week with other campers at the Solid Rock athletic club.

Maria Vallejo reported that children all over Shreveport joined forces and got their hands dirty today to make one neighborhood a better place. Close to 100 children and teens planted a vegetable garden in Shreveport's Queensborough neighborhood. The project was part of the Super Servants Camp hosted by Grace Community Church and the Community Renewal Organization.
