JANE AND THE DRAGON is an animated show that hails from Martin Boynton's best selling books about a middle class girl named Jane. She is raised in the Royal Court as a Knight-in-Training after she demonstrates her courage by leaving the castle to conquer the local dragon. The giant green Dragon, whose sense of humor exceeds his ferocity, instead becomes Jane's best friend and part of the castle community. In each episode, Jane encourters a challenge that tests her problem-solving skills and requires her to demonstrate her strength of character as a Knight of the King's Guard. Sometimes Jane learns a moral lesson, and other times she uses analytical ability to illustrate how a problem can be made less complicated and easily solved.

Park Parties July, 2008 In an effort to promote community and positive well-being in high risk neighborhoods, Child and Family Life Manager and on air talent Maranda hosted four Park Parties in July. The events were held in Holland, Cedar Springs, Kalamazoo and Allegan. Everyone was invited and everything was free. More than 30,000 kids participated in these summer events. Each week a new :30 promo encouraged families to attend. Weekly news coverage supported each event. Drive to Live July - August 21 WOOD TV8 brought together driving safety resources aimed at teen drivers to give students interactive experiences behind the wheel before they hit the roads in the spring. In the Summer, we asked students to enter a contest to create a bumper sticker with a Drive to Live message. Many students submitted entries and three were selected. The student winners were invited to WOOD TV8 where broadcast artists helped put the finishing touches on their designs and the students were honored on tv. We also mass produced each of the winning designs and distributed the bumper stickers with Drive to Live t-shirts during highlighted Football Frenzy games weekly starting in August. MDA Telethon September 1, 2008 WOOD TV8 and WOTV4 personalities and meteorologists host a ten hour live telethon broadcast to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Leading up to the broadcast, several news stories were aired about fund raising efforts and the services, clinics and opportunities the funds help provide.
