Care Bears are a group of funny, colorful bears, each with a special way of caring and a belly badge, which unleashes that bear's special caring power. The bears use their caring hearts and their belly badges to help eachother and to thwart the evil plots of Grizzle, a bad bear with his own flying lair. Each Care Bears episode is designed to foster children's "emotional intelligence," defined by psychologist Daniel Goleman and other researchers as skill in five areas: knowing one's emotions; managing one's emotions; motivating oneself; recognizing emotions in others; and handling relationships.

In this series, Strawberry Shortcake, a curious, self-confident leader, narrates stories of her and her friends' adventures in the richly-imagined world of Strawberry Land. Using her many positive qualities, Strawberry helps her friends, who share her values, but not necessarily her ability to take a broader view, to see beyond their own self-interest. The themes of the stories are designed to have particular relevance for young viewers, focusing on such issues as friendship, fear, self-confidence, sportsmanship, trust and shyness. The pro-social messages flow naturally from the narrative, as the characters experience concrete (positive and negative) consequences of their actions.

And finally, there is no standard antagonist or â??bad guy. the energy for each adventure is derived from the crazy antics that result from amusing mishaps and hysterical situations with various levels of humor that will appeal to the entire family. Along the way viewers young and old are gently reminded of the values and ideals to which we all should aspire: friendship, loyalty, respect, tolerance, compassion and peace. So go for comedy, go for adventure - go for characters the whole family will love. Go for GOGORIKI! (Each half-hour episode consists of three 6.5 minute stories.)

TVG - Parents need to know that this series spotlights young athletes who work hard at their chosen sport. The show is appropriate for all children but will definitely have the most appeal for those interested in sports. It's worth noting that while the show does feature positive role models for kids, it also mirrors some of the gender and racial differences and inequities that continue to exist in sports today.
Families can talk about gender and racial inequities in sports. Why are men's sporting events televised more often than women's? Why do you think some sports have more players from a specific racial/ethnic group than others? Does that play into any stereotypes, either in the media or day-to-day life? How so? Families can also discuss the work and commitment it takes to achieve elite status in the sports world. What sacrifices do young athletes make in order to make college and national teams?
Although the show focses on the players' athletic prowess -- and the awards and scholarships they've received because of their talents -- it also presents these young athletes as regular kids, many of whom spend their time volunteering, tutoring children with learning disabilities, and more.
